Setting date and time on CentOS 6

  1. open Terminal
    check current system time/date and zone
  2. type “date”

  3. check zone info
  4. type “ls /usr/share/zoneinfo”

  5. erase current zone
  6. type “rm /etc/localtime”

  7. create file system link new zone to localtime, in this case using ASIA/JAKARTA for zoning area
  8. ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/Asia/Jakarta /etc/localtime

  9. sync system time with the specified server
  10. ntpdate 0.id.pool.ntp.org
